QROPS List
HM Revenue & Customs have created a QROPS List showing most of the QROPS Pension Schemes available. Some providers have opted not to be listed, and in most cases this is due to the scheme being a company scheme which isn’t open to the general public.
The QROPS list provides the name of schemes from around the world including, Australia, France, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, New Zealand etc.
The reason for the list was to allow expats to see clearly what providers/schemes are available and in what jurisdiction. Each scheme and each jurisdiction will have differing rules and application requirements; the list is to aid the member in simply seeing if a scheme is listed. Professional advice is recommended for anyone looking into QROPS.
The QROPS List can be downloaded from the HMRC site and is updated at the beginning of each month. The QROPS List is regularly amended with information and the removal of QROPS providers and schemes. Complete jurisdiction can also be removed as in the case of Singapore.
It’s important to note, HMRC are not recommending or confirming any QROPS Providers. Schemes can be removed from the list at any time; therefore it is extremely important to check that the scheme is still active when the transfer takes place.
HMRC have amended the original published list to contain a disclaimer after a number of schemes didn’t live up to the rules. Click here to read the QROPS Disclaimer information.
An unauthorised transfer will result in a fine to the member for 55%. A regulated company will have the latest information regarding what schemes are active and what schemes are being removed.

To become a recognised QROPS scheme, the overseas provider must meet the requirements set out by the HMRC. The HMRC then confirm the scheme with an official QROPS certificate. When applying for a QROPS transfers, most UK pension schemes request a copy of the official acceptance letter of the QROPS Pension Schemes. The UK provider will also contact HMRC direct to confirm that the scheme is still active.
